Ilias Kanchan, the legendary actor of Dhakai film and founder of the "We want safe roads" movement, is currently undergoing treatment in London for a brain tumor. He underwent a complex surgery on his head last August and is currently undergoing targeted therapy under the supervision of oncologist Dr. Vinaya at the Harley Street Clinic in London.
Late last month, the actor's son Miraj Moin Joy made the news of his father's illness public. Since then, stars from the film industry have been expressing concern and good wishes one after another. His colleague and dear friend Rozina has already visited him in London. Many stars including Shakib Khan, Dipjol, Riaz, Moushumi have sent messages on social media wishing Ilias Kanchan a speedy recovery.
In continuation of this, popular film actress Shabnur has given an emotional message. In a Facebook post, he wrote—
“The veteran actor, respected Ilyas Kanchan Bhai is seriously ill—my heart was heavy upon hearing the news. It is painful to think that the smile of this man who dedicated his life to the welfare of humanity is tarnished by the shadow of illness today. He is not only a hero on screen, but also a hero in real life—who made people aware of his own life, risking his life to fight for road safety.”
He also wrote,
“The contribution of this talented actor, who received the lifetime achievement award at the National Film Awards, is unique. We all pray for him, may Allah Almighty grant him a speedy recovery and return to us with a lively smile like before.”
Ilyas Kanchan’s journey in films began in the early eighties. In his long career, he has acted in more than a hundred films. His performances in many hit films including “Veder Meye Josna”, “Antaranga”, “Nayoner Alo”, “Chokhe Chhe Katha Hoye” are still etched in the minds of the audience.
Outside of his acting career, Ilyas Kanchan is known by the countrymen as a humanitarian. After the death of his wife Jahanara Kanchan in a road accident, he dedicated himself to the road safety movement. The organization he founded, "Nirapad Sarak Chai", has been working to prevent road accidents for a long time.
Film colleagues and fans are praying together that this beloved actor recovers quickly and returns to the screen as healthy as before.
