Elias Kanchan, the pioneer of the safe road movement and famous film actor, is officially entering the political arena. He is going to form a new political party, which is called 'Janata Party Bangladesh'.
He will announce the party at a function at 10 am on Friday at the Ruposhi Bangla Grand Ballroom of Hotel Intercontinental in Shahbagh in the capital. The matter was confirmed to the media by Liton Ershad, vice chairman of the 'Nirapad Sarak Chai' (Nischa) movement.
It is learned that the new party will include well-known faces of the country's politics. Among them are former state minister and MP Golam Sarwar Milon and former BNP vice chairman Shawkat Mahmud, who will hold important positions in the party.
Liton Ershad said that in addition to politicians, the party will be formed by journalists, lawyers, retired military and government officials, and even representatives of different classes and professions of society.
Incidentally, since losing his wife Jahanara Kanchan in a road accident in 1993, Ilyas Kanchan has been working to shape public opinion on road safety through the 'Safe Roads' movement for a long time. Although he has been called upon to enter politics many times, this is the first time he is directly entering politics.
Ilyas Kanchan's initiative has generated widespread curiosity and discussion in the political arena. It remains to be seen what kind of political philosophy the 'Janata Party Bangladesh' will move forward with and how much it will be able to influence the next elections.
