Imam arrested for raping disabled child in Kishoreganj

A seven-year-old disabled child has been accused of raping a disabled child inside a mosque in Kuliarchar upazila of Kishoreganj. Police have arrested a local imam in this incident. The incident is said to have taken place at Paschim Tarakandi Jame Mosque in Ramdi Union of the upazila on Sunday (May 24) afternoon.
The incident has spread anger and tension in the area.
The name of the arrested person is Mahbub alias Mahbullah (23). He is the son of the late Shahed Ali Akand of Khalishapur-Banpara village of Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona district. According to information from locals, he recently completed his Hifz from the madrasa and joined the mosque as an imam and used to lead prayers regularly.
According to the complaint, when the child went to the mosque with food for the imam on the day of the incident, he was tortured there. Later, when the child informed his family members about the matter, there was a sensation in the area.
Upon receiving the news, the locals arrested the accused and informed the police. Later, the Kuliarchar police station reached the spot and took him into custody.
After the incident, the locals gathered in the mosque premises and protested and demanded exemplary punishment through a speedy and fair investigation.
Officer-in-charge of Kuliarchar police station, Kazi Arif, said that immediately after receiving the complaint, the police arrested the accused from the spot and brought him to the police station. The matter is being investigated seriously and legal proceedings are underway. However, no case has been filed yet.
