A case has been filed against former chief advisor to the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and 16 others, alleging negligence of duty in the plane crash at Milestone School and College in the capital's Uttara.
On Thursday (May 7), Usaimong Marma, father of slain student Ukya Choing Marma, filed the application at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam accepted the application and recorded the plaintiff's statement. The court said it would issue an order in this regard later.
Plaintiff's lawyer AKM Sharif Uddin said that in addition to Dr. Yunus, charges have been filed against former legal advisor Asif Nazrul, environment advisor Rizwana Hasan, education advisor CR Abrar, and the chief advisor's press secretary Shafiqul Alam, among several high-ranking officials.
In addition, the list of accused includes former Education Secretary, Defense Secretary, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, advisor and principal of the governing body of Milestone School and College, and related officials.
It is worth noting that on July 21 last year, an Air Force training aircraft crashed into a building on the Milestone School and College campus. 36 people were killed in the horrific accident, most of whom were students.
The investigation committee formed later submitted its investigation report to the then Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on November 5. The report mentioned the trainee pilot's flight error as the main cause of the accident. This legal action has been taken based on that report and allegations of negligence in duty.
