Shamim Hossain, a Shamim Hossain and Jubo Dal leader from Chatar Dighi Union in Singra, Natore, has been expelled from the party for violating party discipline and principles.

The expulsion was confirmed on Sunday (February 15) in a press release signed by the central joint secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Jubo Dal, Minhajul Islam Bhuiya. The release stated that the party will not take responsibility for any wrongdoing by the expelled leader and instructed all levels of Jubo Dal members to sever organizational ties with him.

Background of the Incident

The events trace back to 2017. According to local sources, during that year, in Kaliganj Bazar of Chatar Dighi Union, Shamim Hossain was allegedly beaten with kicks and punches under the direction of the then UP chairman Altab Hossain Akand over a trivial matter.

Eight years later, on Saturday (February 14) at around 10 a.m., Shamim reportedly attacked the same UP chairman Altab Hossain with kicks, punches, and physical assault in the same market. The incident quickly spread on social media.

Shamim Hossain claimed that during the 2017 union by-election, he was beaten for working in support of the “Dhanshish” (paddy sheaf) symbol. Therefore, he says this attack was a form of revenge.

Regarding the incident, Altab Hossain denied ever physically assaulting Shamim. He added that during an Islamic gathering in 2017, Shamim and a few others distributed khichuri in the market, which had led to some commotion at the time.

Singra Police Station OC A.S.M. Abdun Noor stated that he is aware of the matter, but no formal complaint has been filed at the police station so far.
