Upazila Awami League Vice President Abdur Razzak (58) was brutally murdered in South Surma Upazila of Sylhet. His family and locals were shocked to see his body lying in a bloody state in the stairwell of his house on Friday morning. Police believe the incident took place between 6:30 am and 9:00 am.
Family and local sources said that Abdur Razzak went for a walk on the roof after Fajr prayers like every day. When family members went to look for him around 9 am, they found his blood-soaked body in the stairwell. Deep stab wounds were found on the left side of his chest and lower abdomen. Even his private parts had been cut off and mutilated, which left the family and neighbors speechless with grief.
Upon receiving the information, the police quickly reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue. Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mohammad Saiful Islam said, "This is a brutal murder. We are investigating whether someone from outside came to kill him or someone from inside the house is involved. The son and family members of the deceased are being questioned." He added that it is initially believed that the murder could have been committed due to a political or family dispute. Multiple police teams have visited the scene and collected evidence, and an investigation is underway.
The incident has created deep shock and anger in the area. Leaders and activists of the local Awami League and allied organizations expressed grief over Abdur Razzak's death and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishment.
