Bomb attack and theft at journalist's house in Jhalakathi: Case against 11 people

On September 19, 2025, the house of Md. Molla Shaon, editor and publisher of the daily Jay Jay Bela newspaper and IP Television in Jhalakathi, was bombed and vandalized, and cash and gold ornaments in the house were stolen. A case has been filed against 11 people in this incident at Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station.
According to the case and complaint sources, on July 10, 2024, Abu Akhter, an accused in multiple cases of Ward No. 8 of Dhansiri Union, his son Nasif Mahmud Apu and a group of hired terrorists carried out a planned attack on the Barisal-Jhalakathi highway with the intention of killing Molla Shaon. Later, the accused in the attempt to murder case came out on bail and threatened and planned to attack Molla Shaon's house again.
The accused in the case are Abu Akhter's son Nasif Mahmud Apu, hired terrorist Oli alias Aliullah, absconding accused Akhtaruzzaman alias Abu Akhter and other Chhatra League terrorists: Tipu Howlader, Sadek Howlader, Dipu Howlader, Anisur Rahman, Naeem Talukder, Awlad Hossain Ripon Talukder, Shahidul Islam Rabbi and some other unidentified persons.
Locals have complained that these terrorists are creating panic in the area and have demanded that the administration bring them under the law soon. Officer-in-Charge of Jhalokati Sadar Police Station Md. Moniruzzaman said that the accused are absconding, efforts are being made to arrest them and they will be brought under the law very soon.
