RAB arrested 228 people in 5 days on charges of sabotage

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested 228 people in raids across the country including Dhaka in 5 days on the charges of sabotage.

This information was informed in a small message sent from the media cell of the RAB headquarters on Thursday.

According to RAB's small message, 55 people have been arrested in Dhaka out of 228 people. 173 people were arrested outside Dhaka.

RAB Headquarters Assistant Director ANM Imran Khan told Prothom Alo that these 228 people were arrested from July 20 to 24.

1400 more arrested in raids across the country, about 4500 in 8 days
Law and order enforcement forces are conducting arrest operations in various parts of the country in connection with the quota reform movement. Many of the people arrested by law and order forces are BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists. Arrests are being made in old cases in some places.

According to the information of various metropolitan, district and police station-police sources, the number of arrests in the last eight days (17-24 July) across the country is about 4500.

Students started continuous program from July 1 to demand reform of quota system in government jobs. On July 15, after the clashes surrounding the students' movement in Dhaka University, protests spread almost all over the country. From the next day, attacks, clashes, violence, vandalism, arson and casualties occurred in different parts of the country including Dhaka. Cases have been filed in these incidents at various places. There are still cases in different places.
