The discovery of government-allocated fertilizer and paddy seeds at the house of a BNP leader in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah has sparked discussion and criticism in the area. The incident took place in Ramchandrapur village of Mirzapur union of the upazila.

According to locals, they found 8 sacks of fertilizer and 22 packets of paddy seeds at the house of BNP president Abdullah Mandal of Ward No. 1 of Mirzapur union on Tuesday morning. Later, when the matter came to light, local people and some BNP leaders and activists went there and informed the Agriculture Department.

After the Agriculture Department representative arrived at the spot, fertilizer and paddy seeds were distributed to the farmers from there according to the list.

Locals alleged that although the government-allocated agricultural materials were supposed to be kept at the designated distribution center or government place, they were kept at the house of a political leader. Due to this, questions have been raised about the transparency of the distribution process.

A BNP leader of Mirzapur union said that he does not know how the government fertilizer and seeds were kept in that house. According to the rules, these materials are supposed to be distributed to the farmers from the designated place in the presence of the concerned officials.

On the other hand, Abdullah Mandal denied the allegations and said that fertilizer and rice seeds were brought from the upazila on Monday and kept at his house. Due to rain, it was not possible to distribute them that day. Later, they were distributed to the farmers in the presence of the block supervisor.

The block supervisor of Mirzapur Union said that after receiving the information, he went to the spot and distributed the government-allocated fertilizer and rice seeds to the farmers as per the list.

Based on this incident, the locals have demanded to ensure rules, transparency and accountability in the distribution of government agricultural materials. They demand that in future, government-allocated fertilizer, seeds or any other agricultural assistance should be distributed at the designated place in the presence of officials instead of leaving it at the person's house.
