The District Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested four members of a gang on charges of fraud in the name of issuing visas in Nilphamari. They were arrested on Thursday night after conducting a raid based on a secret information.
Police said that the arrested persons had been defrauding people for a long time by tempting them to issue visas on social media. It is alleged that they were trying to extort money by targeting expatriates living in the country and abroad by talking about various types of visa procedures.
Four Android mobile phones used by the four arrested persons have been recovered. The police are verifying whether the recovered mobile phones contain information and evidence related to the fraud.
The officer-in-charge of the District Detective Police said that a case has been filed against the arrested persons. They were sent to court on Friday.
Police say that the general public should be cautious when receiving any offer related to visa, job or foreign travel online. They have also been advised not to make financial transactions with anyone without verification.
