Members of SR Samiti, an organization of salespeople of various companies, surrounded the Kaliganj Upazila office in Jhenaidah and protested over the acute fuel crisis. This has caused extreme suffering and anger in the area.
On Thursday (April 2), around 11 am, protesters with more than two hundred motorcycles gathered in front of the Upazila Parishad. They protested for about an hour and demanded the normalization of fuel supply as soon as possible.
According to local sources, there is an acute shortage of petrol and octane at various petrol pumps in the upazila. The supply at many pumps is completely stopped. Even at the pumps that are open, motorcyclists are not getting the required fuel even after standing in long queues since dawn. Many are forced to return empty-handed after waiting for hours.
Due to this crisis, daily activities are being disrupted and drivers are facing losses in terms of both time and money. As a result, they burst into anger and started protesting.
Kaliganj Upazila Distributors Association General Secretary Shiplu Zaman complained that public life has come to a standstill due to the non-normal fuel supply. He demanded that the concerned authorities take effective steps to resolve this crisis quickly.
Upazila Executive Officer Rezwana Nahid said in this regard that they have been assured of ensuring quick fuel supply after discussing with the leaders of the Distributors Association. After receiving the assurance, the protesters left the place peacefully.
