BNP-Jamaat clash in Jhenaidah: Death of Krishak Dal leader, tension in the area

A Krishak Dal leader has died after being injured in a clash between leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila. The deceased has been identified as Krishak Dal leader Taru Munshi (44).
He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday (March 13) night while undergoing treatment. Earlier, he was seriously injured in a clash in Madhabpur village of Ganna Union in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila.
According to local sources, a religious training for Jamaat women activists was going on in a house in Madhabpur village on Friday morning. There was also a plan to hold an Iftar mahfil there after the training. After receiving news of the activity around 11 am, BNP leader Taru Munshi, along with his son Shipon Munshi, went to the spot and called for the training to be stopped.
Tension arose between the two parties over this and at one stage it turned into a clash. Several people were injured in the clash, among them Toru Munshi was in critical condition. Later, he was taken to Dhaka for better treatment, but he died during treatment.
In this regard, Jhenaidah Additional Superintendent of Police Sheikh Billal Hossain said that one person injured in the clash died and law enforcement forces have been deployed in the area to control the situation.
He said that joint patrols of the police, RAB and the army have been strengthened to avoid any untoward situation in the area and the situation is currently under control. However, no case or written complaint has been received in this incident so far. Police said that efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the clash.
