A helpless father has announced to sell his kidney to save the life of his son suffering from cancer. The announcement of the father of Rafiuzzaman Rasik, a fifth-grade student from the Charcharabari area of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital, has touched the hearts of many people.

Rafiuzzaman Rasik has been suffering from aplastic anemia, a rare blood disease, for a long time. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2020. Since then, his father, Moniruzzaman Liton, has lost everything while undergoing continuous treatment.

Doctors have said that a bone marrow transplant will be required to save Rasik. And the cost of this treatment is around 25 to 26 lakh taka.

Moniruzzaman Liton said, “I have been fighting for my son since 2020. All my savings and assets have been exhausted. I have received whatever I can from my relatives. Now I only have my house. I want my son to live. If necessary, I will sell one of my kidneys, just so that my son can be saved.”

Recently, he posted on social media Facebook, where he wrote— “I want to sell my kidney for my son’s treatment. Please someone help.”

As soon as this post went viral, there was a stir among netizens. Many have announced to stand by him, some have extended a helping hand.

Moniruzzaman said, “Rasik’s treatment now costs about two thousand taka every day, and about 60 thousand taka is needed per month. It has become impossible for me to raise this money. I can’t do it anymore, but I will not give up.”

On the other hand, the little Rasik said, “My father has done everything for me. I want to become a doctor after getting well. I want to provide free treatment to the poor, because I know what suffering is like.”

Rasik’s weak body, a dirty smile on his face, and the helpless conviction in his father’s eyes—this scene has shaken the conscience of countless people in the country.

Rafiuzzaman Rasik is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. Doctors have said that his condition could become more complicated if he does not undergo a bone marrow transplant soon.

Many are now calling on social media to come forward to provide Rasik with medical help.

In Bangladesh, countless families are fighting to save their sick children every day, but Moniruzzaman Liton’s struggle has brought to the fore a cruel reality of society—where a father is forced to announce the sale of his organs in exchange for his child’s life.
