Clashes with police in Bhanga, UNO office, election office set on fire

In Bhanga, Faridpur, an angry mob attacked the UNO office and election office in protest against the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies and the case filed by the police. During this time, buildings were vandalized and arson occurred. They also attacked the police station and vandalized police vehicles. Tension has spread throughout the area due to this incident.

The situation turned from blockade to attack

On Sunday (September 15) morning, the blockade program in Bhanga upazila was suspended for some time, but around 10:30 am, the protesters again started blocking the road. When the law enforcement forces prevented normal traffic on the road, chases and counter-chase incidents occurred.

Then around 1 pm, thousands of people from different unions in the upazila gathered and attacked simultaneously. In this, the UNO office and election office were vandalized and set on fire. At the same time, the angry mob entered the police station and vandalized police vehicles.

Heated situation in the area

After the incident, extreme tension prevailed in the Bhanga Upazila Parishad, around the police station and the roundabout. Panic has spread among the locals. Shops have been closed and the common people are suffering from insecurity.

Police position

Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Rokibuzzaman told the media, "The police are working to bring the situation under control." However, the atmosphere in the area was tense until noon.
