A mother abandoned her newborn daughter within hours of giving birth in Manda, Naogaon. The child's father, Touhid Islam (25), is in trouble over this incident. Frustrated, he has filed a written complaint with the police station.
Touhid Islam is a resident of Chakhariballabh village in Mahadevpur upazila. About two years ago, he married Sathi Akhter, daughter of Lasher Ali Mandal of Sahapur village in Manda upazila, based on a love affair. However, there was discord in the family from the beginning.
According to Touhid's complaint, his wife Sathi Akhter had been staying at his father's house for the past three months. When labor pains began on Thursday (August 28), he went to his in-laws' house and admitted his wife and mother-in-law to the Tentulia Union Health Center. Sathi Akhter gave birth to a baby girl around 5 pm.
The child's father said that he went to the market to get medicine on the advice of a doctor and returned to find that his wife and mother-in-law had run away, leaving the newborn behind. He described the incident as "inhumane and heartbreaking."
Accused Sathi Akhter told the media that her relationship with her husband was not good since marriage. She did not want to have a child, but the child was born unintentionally. Since she will no longer live with her husband, she will not raise the child either.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Manda Police Station Shamsur Rahman said, "We have received a complaint and an investigation is underway. Sathi Akhter has rejected both her husband and child. Necessary legal action will be taken after the investigation is completed."
