A fierce clash took place between the two sides in Ajmiriganj Municipality in Habiganj over a dispute between a former Chhatra Dal leader and a Jubo Dal leader. At least 50 people from both sides were injured in the incident. The injured are being treated at the local Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj Modern Sadar Hospital.

The incident took place on Monday (July 28) from 7:30 pm to 12 midnight in the Municipality Sadar Bazar area. The nearly four-hour-long clash spread panic among the local people.

According to police and local sources, on Monday morning, former college Chhatra Dal leader Fakhrul Islam, a resident of Nagar village in the municipality, and Jubo Dal leader Maruf Ahmed of Azimnagar village got into an argument over the bail of an accused in the premises of the Ajmiriganj Chowki Court. At one stage, it was alleged that Fakhrul Islam physically assaulted Maruf.

On Monday evening, some people from Maruf Ahmed's side took out a procession against Fakhrul in the municipal area. After this, a chase and counter-chase began between the two sides. At one stage, both sides got involved in a clash with country-made weapons, sticks, rods and bricks.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Baniyachang Circle Prabas Kumar Singh, who was present at the scene, said, "The clash started from a verbal argument between the two sides over the bail of an accused. Currently, the situation is under control and additional police have been deployed in the area."
