A sensational incident has taken place at Bhogoi Adarsh High School in Natherpetua Union of Manoharganj Upazila of Comilla. It has been alleged that a guardian of a student beat up the school's principal Md. Jahangir Alam after disciplining him. The incident took place on Saturday (May 24) at around 3:30 pm.
According to school sources, a ninth-grade student was violating school discipline. Noticing the matter, the principal verbally disciplined him. Shortly after the incident, the student's guardian came to the school and abused the principal in insulting language and at one point physically assaulted him.
Principal Md. Jahangir Alam said,
"I only disciplined the student so that he would follow a good path in the future. But the way his guardian behaved was completely unexpected and shameful. I have already informed the local education officer and the school management committee about the matter. I am also considering taking legal action."
The incident has caused extreme anger among the teachers, students and guardians of the school. The teachers' association has strongly condemned the incident and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused guardian.
Abdul Halim, president of the school's management committee, said,
"Insulting and humiliating the school's headmaster in this way is a warning sign for the education system. We are looking into the matter seriously and a strict decision will be taken in the next meeting."
In this regard, Manoharganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Anwar Hossain said, "We have not yet received any written complaint regarding the incident. Legal action will be taken if we receive a complaint."
This incident has once again raised questions about the security of educational institutions and the dignity of teachers. Analysts believe that the behavior of guardians, school policies and lack of respect for teachers are among the reasons behind such incidents.
