Students agitating for quota reform are gathering near the central library of Dhaka University to implement the previously announced 'Bangla Blockade' program. The leaders and activists of Chhatra League are gathering in front of Madhur canteen near it. Meanwhile, the protestors have come to the Shahbag intersection and started blocking the road for several days, today more police presence was seen than other days.
Students have been protesting since July 1 to demand reform of quota system in government jobs. They have started the 'Bangla Blockade' program from last Sunday. On the first two days, Sunday and Monday, from afternoon to evening, they stopped the traffic by taking positions on important roads across the country including Dhaka. After holding a mass communication program on Tuesday, they again blocked roads and railways from morning to sunset on Wednesday. In this program of theirs, the capital was isolated from the rest of the country. The residents of the capital have to suffer all day long as the vehicles are stuck on the road due to the whole-day blockade.
The protestors have a program of blockade again from 3:30 pm today. However, as it has been raining since noon, the students are taking some time to assemble in front of the central library. Students are coming there with a procession from different halls of Dhaka University. Hundreds of students have already gathered. An announcement is being made to march from there to Shahbagh.
The protestors are chanting slogans such as 'The movement cannot be stopped by the police', 'The movement cannot be stopped by fear', 'The movement cannot be stopped by attack' etc.
On the other hand, along with Dhaka University Chhatra League leaders and activists from various educational institutions of Dhaka city, they are gathering in groups in front of Madhur Canteen. Hundreds of BCL rallies were also seen there. No announcement has been made yet about what the Chhatra League leaders and activists will do.
