Four people, including two schoolchildren, have tragically died in separate incidents in two upazilas due to lightning in Comilla. Another person was seriously injured in the incident and has been admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place between 10 am and noon in Barura and Muradnagar upazilas on Monday (April 28). Local public representatives and police officers in charge have confirmed the matter.

Two farmers lost their lives in a lightning strike while harvesting paddy in a field next to the Korbanpur Purba Para graveyard under Bangra Bazar police station in Muradnagar upazila at around 10:30 am. The deceased are Jewel Bhuiyan (35), son of Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan of Deora village in the upazila, and Nikhil Debnath (60), son of the late Bir Charan Debnath of Paschimpara (Kalibari) area of ​​Korbanpur village.

Eyewitnesses said that they died on the spot when lightning struck them while they were working. Local UP member Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter. Bangra Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzur Rahman said that the police went to the spot after receiving information from locals and after completing the legal process, the bodies were handed over to their relatives.

On the other hand, two schoolchildren died in a lightning strike in Payalguchch village of Khoshbas union in Barura upazila around noon. The deceased were Fahad Hossain (13), son of the deceased Khokon Miah of Payalguchch village, and Saymon Hossain, grandson of Abdul Barek Miah.

According to local sources, both of them were students of class six of Boro Haripur High School. They were flying kites in the field in light cloudy weather when they were struck by lightning. Locals rescued them and rushed them to the hospital, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.

A shadow of mourning has descended on the entire area after the incident. Barura Police Station OC Kazi Nazmul Haque said that it has been confirmed locally that two teenagers died in a lightning strike while flying a kite.
