77 thousand houses were destroyed in Khulna, 4.5 lakh people were affected

Due to the flood caused by Cyclone Rimel, embankments broke in different areas of Dakop, Koira and Paikgacha upazilas of Khulna. In Khulna, 55 points of embankment broke and numerous villages were submerged by overflowing tidal water. Thousands of people are trapped in water. About 77 thousand houses were destroyed. About 4 lakh 52 thousand 200 people were affected by the storm. Apart from this, crop fields, fences and ponds were washed away by salty water.

According to the information of the control room of the district administration, 76 thousand 904 houses of the district have been destroyed in the cyclone. 52 wards of different unions have been directly affected. Numerous trees have been uprooted in Khulna metropolis along with various upazilas. About 4 lakh 52 thousand 200 people were affected by the storm. A person named Lal Chand Moral died after being crushed by a tree in Batiaghata upazila during the cyclone. He is the son of Gahar Moral of Gaogra village.

One person died in the cyclone on Sunday (May 26) night. After staying at the shelter, Lal Chand Moral went back to Batiaghata's house. Then he died after being crushed by a tree.
