As part of the final preparations to go into power generation, another step has been taken in the first unit of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna. Reactor assembly work has been successfully completed at the unit recently. In the next step, hydraulic tests will be carried out to verify the operational capability of various equipment of the reactor plant.

Russia's Rosatom, the contractor for the Rooppur nuclear power project, announced this information in a press release on Wednesday (October 23) morning.

Reactor assembly work included installation of various components inside the reactor, fuel assembly simulator loading, containment pipe unit and upper unit and deployment of Smart Automated and Monitoring Systems (SAMS) sensors, the press release said. Experts from Atomstroy Export, Atomtech Energo and RossEnergo Atom participated in this work.

Alexey Deiri, Etamstroy Export Vice-President responsible for the Bangladesh project, said, “Preparing for the next phase of testing by completing reactor assembly work is critical to ensure efficient operation of the future power unit. Safe, uninterrupted and reliable operation of the power plant is part of our responsibility. We are monitoring every issue very carefully at every step. Modern technology and methods are being used in monitoring.

It should be noted that Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant is being built at Rooppur in Pabna with the technical and financial support of Russia. The project will have two power units and have a total generating capacity of 2,400 MW.

Each unit will be equipped with 3+ generation Russian VVER-1200 reactors capable of meeting all international safety requirements. Rosatom Engineering Wing is executing the project as General Designer and Contractor.
