UP member's wife name in VWB list, various irregularities in food distribution

In Kurigram's Chilmari, various irregularities have been reported in the distribution of cards and food to the beneficiaries of the Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) scheme. There are various irregularities including issuance of card in the name of UP member's wife, embezzlement of food by issuing card in name and name and withdrawal of money during distribution of food. A written complaint in this regard has been submitted to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

It has been reported that under the Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) project, a total of 3,223 very poor women in the upazila have been given 30kg of rice monthly as support for their self-reliance through the Women's Affairs Department of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs. According to the rules, these very poor women are brought under the scheme in stages for every 2 years. In order to distribute food for the cycle of 2023-24, at present DO is given by the women affairs department for the distribution of food for the two months of July and August. During the July rice distribution last Monday, one name card was brought by another person and they were sent back without food. In protest of these irregularities, a former UP member named Lal Mia filed a written complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer on Wednesday.
According to the complaint, Awami League's Thanahat Union General Secretary and Thanahat Union Parishad Chairman Abdur Razzak Milan has committed massive irregularities in the VWB beneficiary election with Noor Alam, a UP member of the 1st ward of his council, and Manwara Begum, a reserved member. Among the irregularities, food is being withdrawn by issuing cards in the name of Mosha. Bebi Begum NID-2820398804, wife of No. 1 ward member of the union. Mukta Akter of the same ward has a card in the name of NID-7814470352, but she does not know about it. In the name of Mrs. Sadhana ID-3270370186. Card is there but she doesn't know. Minara Begum NID-3270101557 has been issued but she is a permanent housewife of Ulipur upazila municipal area. She does not know if there is a card in the name of Mrs. Shapla Rani NID-5503323494. Amina Begum has been carded in the name of NID-2821250491. She is a housewife of Dhamharta union of Ulipur upazila. Morjina Begum has a card in the name of NID-3257955660. She is a resident of Raniganj Union. Food is being extracted in the name of Arefa Khatun NID-7814447863 but she is also a permanent resident of Gunaigach Union of Ulipur Upazila. When talking to Baby Begum NID-2820398804, wife of Noor Alam, 1st ward member of Thanahat Union, she said that she does not know whether there is a card in her name or not, the member knows. A woman named Purnima Rani answered the call on the mobile number with the name of Mrs. Sadhana ID-3270370186 in the list. He said, since my name was there in the last cycle, this time I got the card with my Ja Sadhana ID. When Ms. Shapla Rani called NID-5503323494, the person who answered the call said that she did not know her. Deleted. Amina Begum NID-2821250491 said that she lives in Dhamsreni area. She said that her mother sold the card in her name to a dealer.
On the other hand, there have been allegations of extorting money from the beneficiaries during the distribution of VWB's rice in Nayarhat Union. It can be seen in a video of the distribution of food by boat last Sunday, the council's account assistant said. Nurunnabi and Iman Ali, UP member of Ward No. 7, are collecting 50 rupees per person from the beneficiaries during food distribution.
UP member Iman Ali said, according to the previous rules, 50 rupees were taken from some people, later I returned it. Account assistant cum computer operator of Nayarhat UP, Md. Nurunnabi said, money was withdrawn from 5 people, then the money was withdrawn in the face of obstacles and their money was returned.
Nayarhat UP chairman and local Awami League leader Md. Asaduzzaman Asad said that money was taken earlier for VW's food distribution. This time I have forbidden to withdraw money.
Thanahat Union Parishad Chairman and local League leader Abdur Razzak Milan said regarding the irregularities in the list of beneficiaries of the VWB project of his union, no one has given me these complaints before. I am looking into the matter.
Acting Upazila Women's Affairs Officer Mocha Soheli Parveen said that the food distribution of the accused 8 cards has been stopped for the time being. Later arrangements will be made with the search.
Regarding VWB's irregularities, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Minhajul Islam said, I have received a complaint. The women affairs officer has been given the responsibility to look into the matter.
