Dhaka, Bangladesh: Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and SpaceX, Tesla and X owner Elon Musk opened new horizons in the country’s digital development in a video discussion. They discussed in detail the launch of Starlink satellite internet service in Bangladesh. The discussion held on Thursday night is expected to open up new possibilities for bringing technology-driven social and economic growth in Bangladesh and other parts of the world.

Participants in the discussion:
Present from Bangladesh were Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High Representative for the Rohingya Crisis and Priority Issues, Lamia Morshed, Principal Coordinator for SDGs in the Office of the Chief Adviser. On the other hand, SpaceX was represented by Vice President Lauren Dreyer and Global Engagement Advisor Richard Griffiths.

Professor Yunus and Elon Musk jointly highlighted the importance of Starlink satellite communications for Bangladeshi youth, rural women and people in remote areas. They discussed how low-cost, high-speed internet connectivity can play a significant role in the country’s education, healthcare and economic development.

Professor Yunus’s statement:
“Starlink will connect Bangladesh’s infrastructure, creating new opportunities for millions of people and further connecting the country to the digital economy,” said Professor Yunus. “It can be an extension of Grameen Bank and Grameenphone, helping to connect rural women and youth to the world.”

Elon Musk’s response:
Elon Musk highlighted the initiative as extremely important. He said, “Starlink technology can accelerate innovation, economic empowerment and financial inclusion in Bangladesh.” He added that he has been familiar with the work of Grameen Bank and Grameenphone for many years and has appreciated its excellent impact.

Starlink in Bangladesh: This technology could be a major step towards digital connectivity and financial inclusion in remote areas of the country. Professor Yunus invited Elon Musk to visit Bangladesh in this regard, which was positively received. Musk said, "I look forward to it."

Starlink services could open up new horizons in the development of Bangladesh, playing a significant role in boosting innovation, digital inclusion and economic growth in all parts of the country.
