On February 11, 2012, a journalist couple named Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi were brutally murdered in the capital Dhaka. Even after 13 years, the mystery of their murder has not been solved yet, but investigators are optimistic.
Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were murdered in a rented house in West Rajabazar on February 11, 2012. Even after 13 years, the investigation report of the case has been postponed 115 times, but now the PBI has given new hope. The date for submitting the new investigation report is set for March 2.
The then Home Minister of the Awami League government, Sahara Khatun, had assured to unravel the mystery of the murder and bring the murderers to justice. However, the police, DB and RAB failed to unravel the mystery even after 12 long years. Recently, the PBI took over the investigation of the case and expressed hope that the investigation will be completed soon.
The PBI has already questioned 62 people for the investigation, and is trying to collect new information from 5 people who are in prison involved in the case. PBI chief Mustafa Kamal said that the mystery of this murder will be revealed very soon.
Experts involved in the investigation of the case have confirmed that further interrogations are being conducted after receiving new information from the DNA tests of the suspects after the murder. However, it is not possible to be completely optimistic until the investigation is completed, but there is hope.
Nowsher Alam Roman, brother of the deceased Meherun Runi, said, "We want a fair investigation and the real killers to be identified."
Even today, the families of the Sagar-Runi murders and the country's journalist community are demanding justice, and investigators have promised to resolve the matter quickly.
