Electoral Reforms Commission head Badiul Alam Majumder said, "We are not in favor of keeping any party away from the election." However, he noted, "The people of the country and political parties will decide whether those involved in the July genocide and crimes against humanity will participate in the election and whether they will come to power in the future."
He made these comments while talking to reporters at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, the capital, on Tuesday.
Badiul Alam Majumder also said, "It has been proposed to cancel the election in that seat if it gets less than 40 percent votes. In addition, it has been recommended that people involved in disappearances, murders and crimes against humanity will not be able to run for election."
He clearly said, "This is not for any malicious purpose, but reforms in the electoral system have been proposed to make the electoral arena corruption-free."
Badiul Alam Majumder finally said, "A commission will be formed to try the previous three Chief Election Commissioners and other election commissioners for failure to fulfill their constitutional duties. There is a need to try them through an impartial investigation."
