The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested former head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) Masud Biswas. A senior ACC source confirmed that he was arrested in a drive with the help of the police's intelligence department on Saturday.

The ACC filed a case against Masud Biswas on January 2 on charges of acquiring illegal assets beyond known income. The case statement states that Masud Biswas has acquired illegal assets worth Tk 1 crore 87 lakh 72 thousand 622 in his own name and kept them in possession. This has violated Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

In addition, information has been found about illegal assets worth Tk 72 lakh 56 thousand 999 in the name of Masud Biswas's wife Kamrun Nahar. For this reason, a separate asset statement notice was issued against him under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004.

On September 25 last year, the ACC announced an investigation into allegations of irregularities and money laundering against Masud Biswas. A four-member committee led by the agency's Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Pradhan was formed to investigate the allegations.

So far, the investigation in this case is ongoing, and the ACC is continuing legal proceedings against the accused.
