Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin. He said this at a meeting on the occasion of updating the voter list and the 13th National Parliament election at the Sylhet Circuit House conference room. The CEC said, "When the time comes, we will see which parties are registered. Those who remain will be elected. Whether the Awami League will be able to participate in the election, we will see when the time comes."
In addition, the CEC said that the report of the Electoral Reform Commission has not been received yet. The next steps will be taken according to its recommendations after receiving the report. He said, "We will be able to review the report and come to a decision after receiving it."
He also said, "The proposal to hold local government elections in one day is not realistic and it is not possible with the national election either. The Election Commission is working keeping in mind the timeframe given by the Chief Advisor in his speech on December 16."
The CEC said that the next national election will not be held using EVMs. However, he is working to reduce the suffering of the people by updating the voter list and announced strict action against corruption.
He expressed full confidence in the freedom of the media and said, “It becomes a problem if many journalists enter a booth, so a policy will be formulated to control the access of journalists.”
In addition, he said about the voting rights of expatriates, “Measures are being taken to register their voters before the details are announced, and many expatriates have already become voters.”
