Indian media and the border guard force BSF are presenting various information regarding the tense situation that has arisen between the BGB and BSF in some areas of the India-Bangladesh border. Some important indications are emerging in this information, which may affect the relations between the two countries.
Recently, the Bangladesh Border Guard has claimed that they have recovered the 4.8-kilometer area of the Matila border in Maheshpur upazila that was occupied by India. BGB officials also made this claim in a press conference. They said that they have brought Indian territory under their control.
Meanwhile, the Indian border guard force BSF has dismissed this claim as baseless and irresponsible. BSF South Bengal Frontier DIG NK Pandey said that this part of the Kodla river is Indian territory and there is no room for debate on this.
This statement, which is not in line with the BGB's claim, has been made by India, which may increase any kind of debate or tension on the border. Although the Kodla River originates in Indian territory, it flows through Bangladesh and is very important for local agriculture and water drainage.
In the wake of these incidents, the BSF has warned that such baseless reports could have a negative impact on the good relations between the two countries. They have made it clear that not even an inch of Indian land has been liberated and will not be in the future.
Does this situation indicate any new tension on the India-Bangladesh border? That will be clear in time, but such information sharing can further complicate the situation on the border.
