We are proud of the interim government's chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, as a nation, an old statement by Khaleda Zia has gone viral on social media. It is known that Begum Zia gave the speech in the National Parliament in 2010 while she was the opposition leader. In that two and a half minute speech, Khaleda Zia sincerely congratulated Dr. Yunus and said, "Nobel Peace Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus has recently been awarded the highest US Congressional Award in the United States. For this, we are proud as a Bengali nation."
She said, "The way Nobel Peace Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus is being subjected to homelessness in his own country is truly sad. The Grameen Bank, established with his talent, labor and sweat, is also under threat today. We are shocked that the government-appointed commission has recommended breaking up the Nobel-winning institution Grameen Bank into 19 pieces. Such a decision will destroy Grameen Bank.’
‘I urge the government to stop the vindictive plot to destroy the important role that Grameen Bank is playing in empowering women through microcredit. We strongly oppose it. The people of the country will not accept such despicable acts.’
Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia said, ‘It is very easy to break up and destroy an institution; but building such an institution is a very difficult and laborious task. We also strongly oppose the malicious attempt to impose state authority on Grameen Bank
