Umama Fatema, one of the central coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, has resigned from the post of general secretary of Dhaka University (DU) branch of Bangladesh Student Federation. On Sunday (September 22), he made a post on Facebook about resigning from the post by highlighting his political identity.
There he wrote, in view of the new political reality, I am relieved from all the responsibilities of Umama Fatema, Bangladesh Students Federation, Dhaka University Branch.
He wrote, I have a long journey with the Bangladesh Students Federation. I served as the central coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement during the mass uprising this July. As the July mass uprising changed the world of thought and thought of many of us, it also widened the scope of work to a great extent. New horizons of struggle were opened.
This central coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement wrote, due to the changed circumstances, the need of time and the overall consideration, it is not possible for me to perform the duties of the Bangladesh Student Federation Dhaka University branch secretary. Therefore, I apply for exemption from the post of secretary of Dhaka University Students Federation. Which has been accepted by Dhaka University Committee. My journey with Bangladesh Students Federation ended here.
Wishing good luck for the organization, he finally wrote, Good luck for Bangladesh Students Federation. Hopefully, the Students' Federation will move forward by embedding the political aspirations of the new Bangladesh deeper into its organizational structure, initiated by the country's massive student uprising!
Armanul Haque, convenor of Dhaka University branch of Students Federation, said that Umama Fatema has been honorably relieved from her position and Sakibur Roni has been appointed to this position.
