Vegetable prices drop in capital's markets, shoppers relieved

Vegetable prices have come down slightly in the capital's raw market compared to the past few weeks. When the prices of most vegetables rose above 100 to 120 taka due to the supply crisis caused by continuous rains, the market has now recovered somewhat.

On Friday (August 7), it was seen that most vegetables are currently being sold at 60 to 80 taka per kg. However, the prices of some vegetables are still around 100 taka.

What is the price of which vegetables?

In the current market, barbati is being sold at 80 taka per kg, jhinga at 100 taka, chichinga at 80 taka, dhundul at 60 taka, cucumber at 60 taka, patal at 60 taka and tomato is being sold at 160 taka per kg.

In addition, dhyans are being sold at 60 taka, papaya at 40 taka, radish at 80 taka, brinjal at 100 taka, carrot at 80 taka, bitter gourd at 100 taka and sweet pumpkin at 60 taka per kg.

The price of a piece of gourd is 60 to 80 taka. In addition, jali is being sold at 60 taka and raw bananas are being sold at 40 taka per hali.

However, the price of raw chili is still relatively high. A few days ago, it went up to 400 taka per kg of raw chili, but now it has come down to 320 taka.

Buyers say that some relief has returned

Rois Uddin, a government employee who came to shop at the capital's Malibagh market, said that a few weeks ago, the price of vegetables was very high. Compared to that, there is some relief in the market now.

He said that many vegetables are now available between 60 and 80 taka. The price of raw chili has also decreased compared to before. However, the price of some vegetables is still 100 taka or more.

Prices increased due to rain

Enamul Haque, a vegetable seller in Rampura market, said that many vegetables have been spoiled due to continuous rain. As a result, the price has increased for the past few weeks due to the decrease in supply in the market.

He said that the price has started to decrease now as the supply is somewhat normal. If the weather is good, the price of vegetables is likely to decrease further.

However, he said that the prices of some vegetables that are out of season and those that are still in short supply are around 100 taka.
