Vegetable market up, farm chicken prices up

Vegetable prices have risen again in the capital's raw market. Due to continuous rains and supply shortages, the prices of almost all types of vegetables have increased by 10 to 20 taka per kg. At the same time, various types of chicken, including broilers, are being sold at higher prices.
On Friday (July 17), a visit to the capital's Sheorapara and Taltala markets showed that vegetable prices are quite high in the market. Bitter gourd is being sold for 70 to 80 taka, dharma 60 to 80 taka, patal 60 to 80 taka, barbati 80 to 100 taka and kachur lati 80 to 100 taka per kg.
The price of brinjal has increased by 100 to 140 taka depending on the variety, tomatoes are being sold for 180 to 220 taka and sajna 180 to 200 taka per kg. In addition, the price of raw chilli has increased from 160 to 200 taka per kg.
An increase has also been seen in the vegetable market. Red cabbage is being sold at 25 taka per bunch, gourd at 50 taka, kalmi cabbage at 40 taka per bunch and pooni cabbage at 40 taka.
Meanwhile, the price of chicken has also increased compared to last week. Broiler chicken is being sold at 180 taka, golden cock at 340 taka, golden hybrid at 310 taka and red layer chicken at 350 taka per kg. The price of domestic chicken is 750 taka per kg.
Among daily necessities, potatoes are being sold at 25 to 30 taka and domestic onion at 45 to 50 taka per kg. Prices have not decreased in the fish and meat markets either. Beef is being sold at 780 to 800 taka and mutton is being sold at 1,300 taka per kg.
Market officials say that the price of vegetables has increased due to rain and supply chain problems. However, buyers say that with the increase in the prices of almost all products in the market, they are struggling to meet their daily expenses.
