The amount of money deposited by Bangladeshis in Swiss banks has increased significantly in the space of a year. According to the annual report of the Swiss National Bank, the money deposited in the country's banks by Bangladeshis stood at 834.1 million Swiss francs by the end of 2025. The previous year, this amount was about 590 million Swiss francs.

At the current exchange rate, this amount is about 12 thousand 678 crore taka in Bangladeshi currency. According to the report, the highest money deposited by Bangladeshis in Swiss banks was in 2025 after 2021. It is also in the second highest position in the last decade.

However, it cannot be said that all the money in Swiss banks is laundered money. In addition to individuals and institutions, Bangladeshi banks and Bangladeshis living abroad can also legally deposit money in Swiss banks or their international branches. The Swiss National Bank highlights these funds in the report as liabilities of citizens or institutions of the concerned country.

Economists say the increase in deposits is worrisome. They believe that if effective steps are not taken to stop money laundering, it could put long-term pressure on the country's economy. Experts say the government's main challenge now is to prevent illegal money laundering and take realistic initiatives to bring back the laundered money.
