The elections for the 2025-2027 term of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the top organization of Bangladesh's ready-made garment industry, have been completed. The Forum Panel has proven its superiority by winning this election by a huge margin. As a result, Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), the leader of the Forum Panel and Managing Director of Rising Fashions Limited, is coming to lead the organization.

In the election, the Forum Panel won 31 of the total 35 positions on the BGMEA board of directors. Of these, they won 25 of the 26 director positions in Dhaka and 6 of the 9 positions in Chittagong. On the other hand, the rival Sammilit Parishad won only 4 positions—1 in Dhaka and 3 in Chittagong.

On June 2, these elected directors will elect the president and vice-president of the organization from among themselves. However, it is only a matter of time before Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu) becomes the president as a result of achieving a majority. Extensive discussions have already started about his leadership in the BGMEA and the garment sector.

Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu is an experienced entrepreneur. He has been working in the garment sector for a long time as the Managing Director of Rising Fashions Limited. Earlier, he also served as the Vice-President of BGMEA and actively participated in various policy-making discussions in the sector. Under his leadership, the forum panel achieved victory by remaining united.

Voting in the BGMEA elections was held in a peaceful and transparent environment this time. Voters were able to vote for their preferred candidates fairly. Members are praising the activities of the Election Commission and the supervision of the organization. After the election, various business organizations and exporters congratulated the winning candidates.

The garment industry is the main source of export income for Bangladesh. It is very timely for an experienced, visionary and strategic person to take charge of the leadership of this sector. Therefore, many are hoping that under the leadership of Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, the policies of BGMEA, export-oriented initiatives, labor welfare, sustainable development and international relations will be further strengthened.

The results of this election have given rise to renewed optimism among the entrepreneurs of the country's ready-made garment industry. They believe that the new leadership will make the garment sector more prosperous and competitive in the next two years.
