21 districts in the southwestern region suddenly lost power on Saturday (April 26) afternoon. The power distribution authority has confirmed that this disaster occurred due to a technical fault in the power grid of Khulna. Power supply was cut off in these districts for about two and a half hours.
The West Zone Power Distribution Company (OZOPDICO) said that the power supply was suddenly cut off due to a grid failure. Power outages occurred in a wide area including Jessore, Khulna, Satkhira, Barisal from the afternoon to the evening. However, the situation gradually started to normalize after the evening.
Amulya Kumar Sarkar, Superintendent Engineer of OZOPDICO's Jessore Circle, said that power supply was suddenly cut off in Jessore, Khulna, Satkhira and Patuakhali from 5:30 pm. Work to repair the fault started from 7:30 pm and power connection was restored in different areas one by one. He further said that Jessore is usually supplied with electricity from Jhenaidah, but there was no outage in Jhenaidah, Magura and Kushtia regions.
Meanwhile, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) said in a statement that due to a sudden technical fault in the national grid at 5:45 pm, some parts of Barisal division and Khulna division were disconnected from the grid. These areas were reconnected to the national grid within a short time. Currently, the grid situation is normal.
The Power Division said that an investigation committee is being formed to investigate why the grid failed. It is learnt that detailed information on this matter will be released later.
