The people of Chittagong are not freed from the flood. When it rains, the lower part of the city sinks. Various areas of the city were submerged in last night's rain. Some areas are knee-deep in water. Working people are suffering. Thousands of crores of rupees have already been spent on flood relief projects. However, the benefits do not match.
According to the information of Chittagong Meteorological Office, 112 mm of rain has been recorded in the previous 24 hours from 9 am today (Monday). 31 mm of rain has been recorded since 9 am.
An official of the Chittagong Meteorological Office told Dhaka Post that it is raining under the influence of active monsoon. This trend of rainfall will continue. Along with flooding due to heavy rainfall, there is also a risk of landslides.
It has been found that due to rainfall, the roads of various areas including Mohammadpur, Muradpur, Panchlaish, Katalganj, Chawkbazar, Muradpur, Sholakbehar, Gate No. 2, Baklia and Agrabad have been submerged in water. Some of the roads in these areas have waist-deep water.
Private bank official SM Gear Uddin said, 'My house is Bahaddarhat. One has to go to office from Bahaddarhat via Khan. When it rains, the road around the house gets submerged. The situation is the same today. Had to come to the office by autorickshaw with extra fare.
Monir Uddin, a resident of Chawkbazar area, said, 'Allah knows best when we will be freed from the curse of flooding. I heard that thousands of crores of rupees work has been done. Every year it is said that water will not rise next year. But the gourd is a pumpkin.
Nazmul Huda Siddiqui, a resident of Rahattarpool area, said that he had to take his son to school in knee-deep water. We want to improve this situation.
One project of Chittagong City Corporation, two projects of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) and one project of Water Development Board (PUBO) worth Tk. This work has been going on for almost 5 years. However, the benefits do not match.
