RAB recovered 7 lakh pieces of yaba from a luxury car with a sticker of Roads and Public Paths Department on Marine Drive road in Cox's Bazar. At this time, four people were arrested. They were arrested along with Yaba from Chengchari Patuartek Beach area of Marine Drive road on Sunday (19 May).
Among those arrested were- Abdul Amin (40) son of Haji Mohammad Ali of Deilpara of Teknaf municipality, Zafar Alam (26) son of deceased Dil Mohammad of the same area, Mohammad Abdullah (35) son of Abu Chayed of Godarbil area of Teknaf Sadar Union and Nurul son of deceased Mohammad Kashem of the same area. Battalion Deputy Commander Major Shariful Ahsan confirmed the matter at a press conference at the office of RAB-15 on Monday (May 20).
He said that RAB received information about a large consignment of drugs being smuggled from Teknaf to Cox's Bazar city in a private car on Sunday night. Soon after this, a team of RAB set up a temporary checkpoint in Patuartek area of Jaliapalong Union of Ukhia Upazila on Marine Drive road. At one point, around 2:30 am, a private car with a sticker of Roads and Public Paths Department came there from Teknaf direction. The car was ordered to stop. The people in the car were questioned as their behavior and movements seemed suspicious. At one stage they admitted about drugs. Later, 700,000 pieces of yaba were found inside two big sacks placed under the back seat of the car. The car was also seized. The estimated market value of the seized yaba is over Rs 3 crore.
Major Shariful Ahsan also said that among those arrested, Abdul Amin is a drug dealer listed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He surrendered in the first instance on February 16, 2019 in the presence of the Home Minister. He was later released from prison after serving his sentence. He controls a large circle of yaba. There are 11 cases against him in various police stations of the country including Teknaf.
