On behalf of the anti-discrimination movement, the Chief Justice and other judges have given an ultimatum to resign. In this regard, Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan said, I will resign by this evening.
Resignation has been demanded, what is your decision in this situation? On this question, the Chief Justice said that he had spoken to the legal advisor. I have decided to resign. There are some formalities. On Saturday (August 10) at 1:50 PM, the Chief Justice said, "I have taken a principled decision to resign." I will submit my resignation letter to the President by evening.
He said that he decided to resign for the sake of protecting the life and property of the Supreme Court and judges.
When asked for the purpose of the full court meeting, he said that the virtual full court meeting was called only to decide whether the court can be held from Sunday or not.
Earlier, the anti-discrimination student movement has been protesting in the High Court premises since morning demanding the resignation of judges of the Appellate Division including Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan.
Students from various educational institutions of the capital started coming to the High Court with a procession. They are raising various slogans for the resignation of the judges, claiming they are partisans.
Hasnat Abdullah, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, "We have seen the evil forces, the defeated forces, trying to thwart the freedom bought with the blood of hundreds of martyrs." We will resist them, resist them.
He said, you have already seen that the Chief Justice of our Appellate Division is trying to hold an online queue with other judges. We have seen that Hasina's son Joy said that his mother did not resign. In that case the government formed is illegal. That is, this government has been formed in violation of the constitution.
