Broadband internet connection is available across the country but it is slow. However, social media Facebook and TikTok are still closed. No decision has been taken yet regarding the launch of mobile internet.
Mobile internet was shut down on the night of July 17 and broadband internet on the night of July 18 amid the protests and subsequent clashes surrounding the quota reform movement in government jobs.
After being closed for five consecutive days, the government announced the launch of broadband internet connection on an experimental basis from July 23. However, social media cannot be used with this connection. Apart from this, the internet is also very slow.
On Thursday, the International Internet Gateway (IIG) operators instructed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to activate the cache servers of YouTube and Google services. Also Facebook and TikTok cash servers should be closed.
According to BTRC and IIG sources, although the broadband internet has started, it is not in the same condition as before. If there is no bandwidth for five to seven days, the content delivery network (CDN) takes at least 48 hours or more to recover or recover. That's why the internet speed is getting slow now. It will return to normal within a day or two.
On the other hand, the government is not launching Facebook and TikTok right now. Last Wednesday, Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak told reporters that there is no accountability for Facebook, YouTube and TikTok. They behave differently in different countries. They are doing business in Bangladesh right by boosting; But the rules of the country do not follow. The government will give them a letter to obey the rules of Bangladesh. These institutions will be asked to appear to answer this.
The data of Napoleoncat, a Poland-based platform for social media management, says that the number of Facebook users in Bangladesh is more than six and a half million as of last June. In addition, according to the data portal, the number of TikTok users in Bangladesh at the beginning of this year is 37.36 million.
Regarding the launch of mobile 4-G network, the state minister said that today Friday and tomorrow Saturday, the organization of mobile operators will meet with Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB). He also said that efforts will be made to launch 4G between Sunday and Monday.
According to operator sources, there was no message from the regulatory body regarding the launch of 4G until Thursday.
