On Sunday (January 26), at around 11:30 pm, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ujjwal Roy conducted the operation based on information from the National Security Intelligence Agency at the Kayetkanda Someshwari River ghat in Chamardani Union. Local police and Ansar members participated in the operation.
Identification of the arrested:
1. Mahar Ali (48), Amanipur village
2. Aynal Haque (40), Teligaon village
3. Dudh Mia (34), Teligaon village
4. Abul Kalam (58), Jagannathpur village
Police sources said that a case has been filed against the arrested under the Special Powers Act. The seized cows are being processed by the police station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madhyanagar Police Station Md. Sajib Rahman said, “The arrested accused have been handed over to the court. Our regular campaign against smuggling will continue.”
Upazila Executive Officer Ujjal Roy told More News, “Based on secret information, the cattle and buffalo smugglers have been arrested in a drive. They could not show any valid documents to prove their ownership of the cattle.”
Cows and buffaloes have been smuggled through the Madhyanagar border for a long time. However, the administration’s successful campaign has received a storm of praise from the locals.
Experts believe that this initiative of the administration will play an important role in preventing smuggling.
