Legal advisor Asif Nazrul has posted on social media Facebook, calling the attack on the Bangladeshi High Commission in Agartala, India ‘disgraceful’. In one part of the post posted on Monday night, he mentioned ‘India should understand, this is not Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh.’
In the Facebook post, the legal advisor wrote, ‘Today, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, India was vandalized, and the Bangladesh flag was set on fire. Members of an organization called Hindu Sangharsh Samiti committed this despicable incident. (I ask, if an organization called ‘Muslim Sangharsh Samiti’ had committed this incident in Bangladesh, what kind of aggressive campaign would India have engaged in?)’
In the post, the advisor also referred to international law for providing security to embassies of any country. He wrote, ‘According to international law, the Indian government is responsible for providing complete security to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission on Indian soil. They have failed to do this. I condemn this failure.’
Meanwhile, the advisor also mentioned the statement of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Bangladesh. In this regard, he wrote, ‘I condemn the statement of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata. What is happening in different parts of India, on the minorities and Dalit communities, on the contrary, India should be ashamed of it.
‘I tell India, we believe in friendship with equal dignity and equal rights. Sheikh Hasina’s government believed in the policy of appeasement of India out of greed to stay in power without votes. However, India should understand that this is not Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh. This Bangladesh is independent, sovereign and self-respecting.
