On Thursday (October 31) at 10 a.m., a clash between the police and the army took place in the Kachukshet area of Dhaka's Mirpur No. 14 with garment workers. Two garment workers were shot. At that time, the protesters set fire to an army vehicle and a police lagoon.
It is known that thousands of garment workers took a position on the road of Mirpur 14 and Kachukshet area around 8 am to protest against the layoffs and the closure of a local garment factory. Bricks and stones were thrown from the garment workers' movement when police and army personnel came to pacify them. At one point, the protesters started vandalism. The police resorted to lathicharge in self-defense. At one stage, the workers vandalized and set fire to army vehicles and police vehicles.
Two garment workers were shot in the clash. They are Al Amin (18) and Juma Akhtar (15). They have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Kafrul Police Station OC Kazi Golam Mostafa said that the angry workers threw brickbats at the police and the army. Batons and tear gas shells were fired to bring the situation under control. At one stage, the garment workers set fire to army and police vehicles. Now the situation is normal. Army and police are on the spot.
Locals said that the chase and counter-chase between the two sides lasted for about an hour. Currently, the situation is prevailing in the area. Traffic in the area was disrupted for about two hours as a result of the clash.
