Jessore Road is an important international highway connecting West Bengal and Khulna in India. BJP Member of Parliament Shantanu Thakur appealed for speedy expansion of the road. Recently, he wrote a letter to the country's Union Road Transport Minister.
Shantanu said, "I have applied to the road transport minister to widen and expand the Jessore road from Barasat to Petrapol border for about 60 km. A request has also been made to make necessary plans quickly in this regard. As I said, Jessore Road is now one lane. Let it be 4 or 6 lanes.
According to the letter, Jessore Road is an international road. Bangladesh is connected with India by road. The distance from Kolkata to Petrapole is about 80 km.
Why expansion of Jessore road is necessary - The letter said that the passenger traffic between the two countries (Bangladesh-India) through the Petrapol border has increased a lot. About 23 lakh people travel through here every year. About 60 percent of India's trade with Bangladesh by road is through this road. The expansion of the road will facilitate passenger movement between the two countries. Trade volume will increase and local people will also benefit.
