The vegetable farmers of Tangail district suffered a lot due to floods and heavy rains this year. Farmers of 12 upazilas are now busy cultivating winter vegetables to compensate for that loss.
The price of vegetables will decrease only after these vegetables are in the market. At the same time, the shortage of vegetables in the market will also end. Winter vegetables can be more profitable than other crops. Therefore, the amount of land for winter vegetables is increasing every year in this region. Tangail district has fertile land for the production of all kinds of vegetables. Winter vegetables are produced in large quantities in the hilly, grassland and plains of this district every year. This year, due to floods and heavy rains, vegetable cultivation is disrupted.
Seeds and seedlings are destroyed. This has an adverse effect on the markets. The prices of different types of vegetables increase in the market. As the monsoon season ends, farmers have started cultivating winter vegetables to compensate for their losses. Cultivated vegetables include cauliflowers, leafy vegetables, radishes, tomatoes, beans, gourds, spinach, red vegetables, etc. It can be seen on the surface, some of the farmers are preparing the land, some are planting seeds or seedlings on the land. Someone else is tending to the vegetable plants growing on the land. All in all, farmers are having a busy time now. Farmers say that their produce will go to the market in a few days. Hoping to make more profit by selling winter vegetables.
Tangail district is famous for growing all kinds of vegetables. A large amount of vegetables are grown in the district every year. These vegetables go to different districts of the country including the capital Dhaka for sale after meeting the demand of the district. Farmers are showing more interest in winter vegetable cultivation this year as the prices of all kinds of vegetables are good. According to the district agriculture department, this year the target of cultivation of winter vegetables has been set on 11 thousand hectares of land in the district. The agriculture department is providing all kinds of support to the farmers for good yield of vegetables.
If the weather is favorable, there will be a bumper crop of vegetables in Tangail. As a result, the vegetable crisis in the market will end, and the prices will also come within the reach of the buyers, the stakeholders believe.
