Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has commented that efforts are being made to bring back the Awami League through the Jatiya Party. He claims that since the attempt to form a 'refined Awami League' has failed, this time the effort is being made through the Jatiya Party.
He made these comments while talking to reporters while visiting Nurul Haque Nur, president of the Gana Odhikar Parishad, who is undergoing treatment at the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Asif Mahmud said, "The Jatiya Party is a marked fascist party. In the past, they have repeatedly legitimized the fascist parliament of the Awami League. They have created an artificial parliament and artificial democracy in Bangladesh on India's prescription. Supporting these marked fascists means deceiving the people. I believe that anti-fascist political parties will resist such efforts."
He further alleged that many people do not want a political or democratic solution by excluding the Awami League in the name of participatory elections. He said, “If anti-fascist political parties take the form of government and opposition parties, that will be the real solution. But if the attempt to bring back the Awami League in various formats is not successful, then there will be an attempt to sabotage the elections.”
On the question of banning the Jatiya Party, he said, the government has not yet taken any formal decision on this matter. However, meetings are underway with stakeholders. Today too, the chief advisor will meet with some political parties and some organizations associated with the July coup. The government will take a decision based on the opinions of the political parties and the people.
Referring to the attack on Nurul Haque Nur, Asif Mahmud said, “Such an attack did not happen even during the Awami League government. Yet, such a heinous incident occurred during the tenure of this government. The government must take responsibility for it.” Regarding the allegations against the army, he said, “The government is thinking of forming a strong investigation committee. This is not an attack on an ordinary political worker, but an attack on a major leader of a party. The government is determined to ensure that no one else dares to commit such an incident in the future.”
