Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP Chairman Jebel Rahman Gani and Secretary General M. Golam Mostafa Bhuiya said, our constitution has been amended 17 times in 53 years of independence, but it has not been possible to fulfill the aspirations of the people.
They said these things in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (September 10) on the 76th birth anniversary of Shafiqul Gani Swapan, the political successor of the oppressed public leader Maulana Bhasani and the former chairman and former minister of Bangladesh NAP.
Paying deep respect to the immortal memory of leader Shafiqul Gani Swapan, he said that the politics of national unity should be carried forward on the path shown by Shafiqul Gani Swapan to prevent all anti-national plots. National consensus should be created on the question of 'state reform'.
They said that the present constitutional framework gives rise to dictatorship. The prime minister has immense power, which all rulers have abused more or less. And the fallen autocratic government made the most of it. Besides, Article 7 of the Constitution contains some things in clause 'A', which cannot be amended. That is why there is no other way to amend or rewrite the constitution without consensus. The constitution has been amended repeatedly in the country. If the Constitution is amended again by Gojamil, the bloody revolution of the students and the July Revolution will remain unfulfilled.
