New Delhi has explained why the meeting between the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at the UN General Assembly conference in New York did not take place. India's Union Home Ministry has said that the main reason for the non-meeting of the two leaders is due to schedule mismatch and lack of time.
Incidentally, around the session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, speculations were going on in various media of Bangladesh for the last several days that the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the chief advisor of the current interim government of Bangladesh. There may be a meeting between Muhammad Yunus. However, on September 19, New Delhi said that there will be no meeting between Modi and Yunus in New York.
Soon after New Delhi's announcement, media and social media were abuzz that Modi did not want to meet Yunus due to recent political changes in Bangladesh and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina currently in political asylum in India.
However, India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri denied this information in a press briefing on Monday.
After completing his visit to New York, the plane carrying Modi landed at the New Delhi airport in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Earlier on Monday, shortly after the plane carrying him left the New York airport, he said in response to a question in a briefing in New Delhi, "You know, this time our Prime Minister went to New York on a very short visit. The duration of his visit was only 55 hours and he left New York for New Delhi a few minutes ago."
“On the other hand, the Bangladesh caretaker government adviser has not yet reached New York. Since both had different travel schedules, there was no chance of a meeting between them this time.”
India's foreign secretary also said that Narendra Modi had a meeting with Donald Trump, the former president of the United States and the candidate of the Republican Party in the next election. But that meeting was also canceled due to tight schedule and busy schedules.
