A cyclist named Mohammad Shamsul Haque (65) died after being crushed under a truck in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh.
The accident took place on the Asian Highway adjacent to the Karatoya Bridge of the municipality at 8 pm last Monday (December 2). The deceased Mohammad Shamsul Haque is the son of the deceased Kasim Uddin of Harinchara area of Domar upazila of neighboring Nilphamari district. Shamsul Haque was working as a manager at a brick kiln called KSB located in Kaliganj of Dandapal union.
According to police and local sources, he left Kaliganj for Domar on a bicycle to go home every evening after finishing his kiln work. On the way, while he was turning on the Asian Highway at the western end of Debiganj Karatoya Bridge, a sand-laden truck heading from Panchagarh to Jessore hit him from behind and he fell under the truck. His left leg was completely crushed. Later, locals rescued him in an injured condition and brought him to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex.
As Shamsul Haque's condition was critical, the doctor on duty gave him primary treatment and shifted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. He later died on the way to Rangpur Medical College. Meanwhile, the agitated locals detained the killer truck. Later, the police seized the truck and took it to the police station.
Confirming the death of a person in the road accident, Debiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Soel Rana said that the body will be handed over to the family after the legal process is completed. Legal action is under process in this incident.
