Four children have gone missing after taking a bath in the Brahmaputra river at Nageshwari in Kurigram. The incident happened on Wednesday (September 11) afternoon in the branch river of Brahmaputra river in Narayanpur union of the upazila. Among the missing children are three sons and one daughter.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kachakata Police Station Bishwajit Roy and Narayanpur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the disappearance.
The four missing children are Jewel, son of Alam Mia of Baghmara village of Ward No. 9 of that union, Nazmul Hossain, son of Nazrul Islam of Ashtashi Char village, Akhi Khatun and Atiq Hossain, two children of Ahad Ali.
Four children are students of Dr. Monir Uddin Government Primary School. Among them, Jewel is a class 4 student and the other three are class 1 students.
Alal Uddin, the cousin of the missing Jewel, said that after the school break on Wednesday afternoon, the five went to bathe in the branch of the Brahmapatra river that flows by the village. One of them managed to get up but the other four drowned in the current. After getting the news, everyone in the village searched for them but they were not found. I found myself in the water. The search for them was stopped as it was night. The fire service's diving team is expected to arrive on Thursday.
