Jafarganj Bazar area of Devidwar Upazila of Comilla has been flooded by Gomti River. The water of Gomti river of Comilla is flowing over Bipatseema. In this, the water is coming out through the dam protecting the city of the river. There is no end to the worries of the city dwellers.
For several days, people of various areas including Shubopur, Chandpur, Kaptan Bazar, Bhatpara of Comilla suburb have been spending sleepless nights. They are afraid that any time the Gomtir dam will break and water will enter the city.
When a crack appeared in Chhatrakhil area of Gomti river from noon yesterday, local youths closed the crack with earth. Last night, water gushed out of the river dam in Aranyapur, Chanpur area of the city protection dam. At that time, everyone panicked as it was spread on social media that the river had broken.
Alam Ahmed, a resident of Puran Chowdhurypara, said, "Because of social media, every second is spent in worry from yesterday till now. I don't know when the river breaks and water enters!'
Suraiya Akhter, a housewife of Kaliajuri area, said that their house is next to the river protection dam. Saw on TV that even one-story house is drowning in flood water. They spend sleepless nights as the water level of river Gomti rises for a few days.
Ajmal Hossain of Mogltuli area claimed that he had not seen such water in Gomti at the age of 70.
Abdus Sobhan, a resident of the city's Kandirpar area, claims that the city's protection dam has also softened due to the rise in the Gomti river. It can break at any moment, they are afraid to hear such words of people.
It was seen on the ground today Sunday in Bibir Bazar, Chanpur and Bhatpara areas of Gomti River in Comilla that volunteers are working to protect the river. A volunteer named Rubel Hossain said that more than five hundred volunteers are working to protect the dam. If everyone is aware, it will be possible to save the city protection dam.
Khan Mohammad Waliuzzaman, executive engineer of Water Development Board Comilla, said that the water of Gomti river is still flowing 81 cm above the flood limit. Water decreases by 1 cm and rises again by 1 cm. That is, the water flow of Gomti remains unchanged.
